Homemade Oreo Recipe!

I am the first to admit that I have a pretty major sweet tooth, especially when it comes to chocolate and cookies. This quick and simple recipe, which has been highly requested from family and friends throughout the years, perfectly combines these two favorites with a fun twist on your classic Oreo! Only taking an hour of your time, Homemade Oreos will be the talk of any dinner table. The best part is, it only takes four basic ingredients!

Let’s start with the ingredients:

  • 1 Devil’s Food Cake Mix

  • 1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

  • 1 Betty Crocker Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 2 Eggs

Now, the quick and easy steps:

First, blend together the cake mix, vegetable oil, and eggs. When ready, the dough will have a thick and sticky consistency. Next, scoop the dough out of the bowl with a cookie scoop and roll into 1” balls. Then, place the balls onto a parchment paper-covered cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-9 minutes, depending on your oven. Remove the freshly formed cookies from the sheet and place them in the freezer for 10 minutes. After solidifying, spread the cream cheese frosting onto a cookie and place another on top. And voila! These yummy treats will definitely become a new family favorite or be a big hit at any event!

Want to spice things up and go for a more festive approach? Add some seasonal sprinkles! Your local grocery store, Hobby Lobby, or Michael’s have a wide variety of different shapes and colors to match whatever season you are baking for. Whether it is some spooky pumpkins for Halloween for the fall time, red and green sprinkles mixed in with some candy canes for Christmas, or an all green approach with four leaf clovers for some St. Patty’s Day fun, your Homemade Oreos can be customized to meet any holiday event. Or, you can just keep it plain and simple to satisfy your hunger for a midnight snack!

You can also add chocolate chips directly into the mix for when you are craving all things chocolate and then some. Another festive recommendation for a Christmas spin on this recipe is to add in a little peppermint! Start by crushing up several candy canes into 1/4″ pieces and stir into the dough mix once it has reached a thick and sticky consistency. Make sure that the pieces are spread evenly throughout the dough in order to ensure every bite has a minty kick!

The final step:

Enjoy! This recipe makes about twelve cookies per the measurements provided above, so be sure to adjust your ingredients accordingly for larger or smaller portions.
