Think Pink!

The color pink is more than just a color. It represents the continued fight against breast cancer and raising awareness to help contribute to the cure.

Tonight, the Belmont University women’s soccer team will be playing against Valparaiso University at 6:00 pm CT. Although there will be a battle on the soccer field during this time, there is another battle constantly occurring off of it: the battle against breast cancer. This game is about those who have been affected by this disease in some way, whether it is through a personal or a relational experience. It is also an opportunity to help by donating to those fighting and those researching. So, come out to cheer the Bruins on and help contribute to find a cure!

The Belmont women’s soccer team has worked with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the past several years to help contribute to this cause. The mission of this foundation is to “save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.” This year, we are auctioning off our “Think Pink” jerseys to help do our part by helping to fulfill this critical need. The auction is live and will be going on through October 28th. All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, with bidding starting at $40.

One person who has helped raise awareness for breast cancer and has been afflicted by it herself is Betty Wiseman. Betty Wiseman is the matriarch of women’s sport at Belmont, being one of the original individuals who fought to have women’s basketball and later other sports here at this university. Wiseman battled and came out not just resilient, but stronger than ever. Every year, she attends this game to represent all those who have fought and are continuing to fight. Her infectious energy and bright spirit are truly inspiring, as her presence puts the battles that we experience throughout life into perspective. Being able to use the sport we love to bring awareness to such a great woman, foundation, and cause is both a privilege and an honor. The Bruins play for Mrs. Wiseman, friends, family members, and many more who have been affected in whatever regard.

A bible verse that I love and that can help people through whatever battle they are facing is Joshua 1:8-9. It says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Rely on God’s strength so that He may fight any battle for you and His presence so that He may comfort you in this time of need. Whether the battle you are fighting is breast cancer or not, God will never abandon you. God’s got you!

Want to support this amazing foundation and fight for a cure? You can help contribute with the Susan G. Komen Donation Link. You can also bid for your very own “Think Pink” jersey with the Jersey Auction Link. Any and all proceeds aid breast cancer research, so let’s do our part and support all of those who have been affected.
